A design proposal for a community Mosque in Ara Damansara, a growing suburban area in Selangor, located at the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. Like most of the community mosque in urban areas in and around the Klang valley, this particular mosque is designed to cater for a large number of the anticipated Muslims during the afternoon Friday prayers. It will also be designed to cater for the 5 different prayers times and many other daily religious classes, rituals and ceremonies.

The site measuring approximately 5 acres and it is located at the vicinity of the township. We were task to design a mosque that will be able for ease future extension and renovation every 5 to 10 years to cater for more numbers of faithful especially during the Friday prayers.

Currently, the design of the mosque can cater for approximately 1,500 "Jemaah" in an enclosed area within an area designed for future extension. The women prayer hall is allocated at the second floor with a separate entrance.

We were requested to explore several design proposals from the various Islamic architecture traditional architectural languages to modern interpretation of Islamic architecture. Our design approach also requires us to plan for an enclosed prayer hall, over spill area at its verandah ways and outdoor praying areas to cater the surge of devotees during Friday prayers. The Mosque is also designed to face the Qibla and located on the site to allow for easy expansion of the mosque and to allow for the building of additional facilities in the future. We eventually recommended the use of the modern interpretation of Islamic architecture for the expression of the mosque as we believe Islamic architecture should always be progressive rather than reusing traditional language.
