Site Plan

Background Information
A new building is required as the extension of the existing office tower for Kuala Lumpur Police Department. The site is located on 5-acre land in the golden triangle of Kuala Lumpur at the junction of Jalan Hang Tuah and Jalan Pudu. The new development covers 55 000 sqm of floor space with 551 units of car park.

Design Approach
The location of the building was purposely-positioned perpendicular to Jalan Bukit Bintang to achieve building as viewed from the busy junction an imposing.

The building is also set back by 40 meters to allow for a full size parade ground that can accommodate approximately 1000 participants at one time. This venue could also be utilised for other large scales outdoor events to be carried out by Kuala Lumpur Police Department.

The main challenge in designing IPKL is to intergrate the many required building components within the site. Furthermore, we were required to design a building complex for public use with several secured areas for authorised designated personnel only.

The visual separation is achieved by locating public spaces like grand entrance, cafe, auditorium, multi purpose hall, banquet hall and exhibition hall in the 2-5 storeys podium block on the ground.

Meanwhile, secured spaces like shooting range and light arms stores are located at the basement. Offices and operation rooms are located in the 21-storey office tower block.

Finishes like glass, aluminium cladding and aluminium sun shading devices (ESD) are used on the exterior to obtain a combine low energy usage for the building architectually and simultaneously represent a modern and high tech facade.
