In 1957, the newly independent Malaya, now known as Malaysia, was lamenting the establishment
of its identity with Islam as its official state religion. As with most other Muslim countries, the idea of
building a national mosque was vital in projecting this aspiration after it had gained its independence
from being under various colonial rulers for 450 years ever since 1511. |
